On Wednesday 16th May we went to Scapa as part of our Coasts topic.
After a brief safety talk, we spent the first part of the day exploring rock pools.
We found lots of interesting things. Some we knew and recognised and some we didn't. Luckily we had Sue Whitworth and Linsey Taylor from the RSPB there to help with the identification.
After a walk to the other end of the beach for a toilet stop. We got our gloves on, and picked up all the marine litter we could find as we walked along the beach.
We were shocked by how much litter we found, and particularly how much plastic and rope there was.
We then enjoyed a well earned rest and lunch before heading back to school.
We had a fantastic day, and were glad that the weather had stayed nice for us, but were all rather tired after the walk there and back.
Didn't we have fun! You all really enjoyed your time at Scapa! The weather was okay, could have been warmer but at least it stayed dry. You found lots of interesting creatures and lots and lots of crabs, didn't we Jack!! Jack the crab hunter!!! Well done to you all for walking there and back without complaining too much! And well done, dare I say it, to Laura who managed to carry her bag and rock pool dispite having a broken arm. Thanks to all her classmates for being so supportive towards her. Caroline(Laura's mum)
