Team Building

Last week our challenge was to work in groups to produce a
3D Lego model of something that would grow in the ground.

All the groups worked very well, and there were lots of
positive comments heard as the groups worked.

Here are some pictures of the models.

A rose

A banana tree

A garden

A sunflower

A tree

A beanstalk

Great models and great teamwork P4!
Well done!

Pony Club Games Success

Last weekend, Isla was away in Fraserburgh competing in the pony club games.

She did very well, and took her rosettes in to let us see.

Her team came second in the friendly, and third in the competition.

Well done Isla!

Visit to Scapa

On Wednesday 16th May we went to Scapa as part of our Coasts topic.

After a brief safety talk, we spent the first part of the day exploring rock pools.

We found lots of interesting things.  Some we knew and recognised and some we didn't.  Luckily we had Sue Whitworth and Linsey Taylor from the RSPB there to help with the identification.

After a walk to the other end of the beach for a toilet stop.  We got our gloves on, and picked up all the marine litter we could find as we walked along the beach.

We were shocked by how much litter we found, and particularly how much plastic and rope there was.

We then enjoyed a well earned rest and lunch before heading back to school.

We had a fantastic day, and were glad that the weather had stayed nice for us, but were all rather tired after the walk there and back.

Writing With P1C

Last Friday we worked in pairs and small groups with P1C to create an acrostic poem about Spring.

Half of us worked in the P4 classroom and the other half worked in the P1C classroom.

We shared our ideas on a planning page.

We came up with some very descriptive sentences!

P1 then wrote out the poems.

P4 were very impressed at P1C's beautiful handwriting!

Sometimes using a dictionary or thesaurus helped us find more interesting words.

Mrs Scott and Miss Corse were impressed how well we worked together.

We shared our poems at the end.
We can't wait to work together again!

Coastal Erosion

We investigated coastal erosion to discover the effect the waves have on the coastline.

We made a model cliff using sand, complete with houses on top and simulated waves for 10 seconds at a time, and watched to see what happened.

10 Seconds
After 10 seconds we noticed that the beach was bigger.

20 seconds
After 20 seconds the beach was bigger again and there was evidence of
undercutting at the bottom of the cliff.

30 seconds

For the next 10 seconds we simulated much bigger waves as if in a storm.
Some of the cliff at the edges collapsed at this point.

The class wanted to find out how long it would take before the cliff eroded so much that the houses fell.  We simulated more storm force waves and the houses fell after 22 seconds.
